In an another round of isolated killings in Platea State of Nigeria, a 60 year old woman by name Laraba Dauda of Mere village, Rahoss Community of Riyom LGA was reportedly attacked and killed by a group of people suspected to be Fulani militias last evening of 19th September,2022 in the interior bush of the area concerned.
According to one of the villagers (anonymitous), “the deceased woman went to fetch firewood yesterday, but was not seen back home up to late evening hours. The alarm was raised and the villagers went out in search of her, but couldn’t traced until this morning when we were able to stumble on her corpse in the interior bush this morning…”
Another respondent who also pleads anonymity said, “after a vigorous search when there was still heavy dew, we never know we were almost getting to the spot where the slaughtered woman was laying, we spotted armed Fulani amongst whom is one of the suspects arrested. He threatened to open gunfire at us immediately the dew varnished as we hurriedly took to our heels for excape untill the arrival of security agents shortly after the suspected attackers had fled.
ECCVN’s team, at the scene of the incident, observes a crowd of mourners expressing their sadness and also appeals to Security agents-new Sector 6 Commander of Operation Safe Have with his team alongside the personnel of Divisional Police Headquarters of Riyom who are commended for their swift response when intimated about the ugly development. The mourners express their experiences with regard to alarming destruction of farmed crops on daily basis by Fulani herdsmen during grazing which post economic threats to the unsuspecting populace.
It’s also observed that, upon the arrival of the joint security operatives with the aid of local security outfits, who swung into action including trailing and arresting of 8 suspects, all hail from Bangai of Bachi District in Riyom LGA.

BYM calls for calmness as the security agents are on top of the situation. It however appeals for dispassionate investigation for onward prosecution of anyone found to have taken part in the murder. The Apex Youths body also beckons on the new Commander to replicate the modus operandi of Col. Abdulsallam of Sector 4 in Barkin Ladi LGA in order to get rid of criminal and terror elements from the general area.
Responding to the situation and appeals made by the mourners; Col. W.O. Ubi pacified the crowd, and also assured them of going down to the root of the situation for necessary action. He however, cautioned against violence reaction to avoid more losses, but also covet the cooperation of people so as to set a pace in the sectorial jurisdiction.
The corpse has been evacuated to the village for funeral according to Christian rites as directed by license Pst. Caleb Gandu of COCIN LCC Mere.
