The Mwagavwul ethnic nationality has been reached out with food relief by Berom Community in North America under the leadership of Mrs Felicia Chomo Sodipe as part of commiserating with the entire people of Mangu LGA over the dastardly acts of genocide meted on them by suspected Fulani militias in the recent past.

Nigerian survivors of violent attacks are getting reasons to smile this season, even though the world’s attention is on the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.“I never thought I would be so remembered,” said an emotional Ladi Pam, one of three survivors of a terrorists’ attack in a family of ten.“Not only are you praying for us, you are reaching deep into your pockets to provide for us,” said Pam while receiving a cash gift for her little niece who had been out of school since her both parents were killed along with her two siblings on August 1.In that attack in Danda village 15miles south of Jos the capital of Plateau State, seven of Pam’s family members were killed. Her nephew of 4months-old at the time had his hand cut off by the terrorists’ bullet. Pam who narrowly survived the evening attack now caters for the little school girl and the amputated baby, despite being unemployed.“Few hours ago, I was wondering how my niece would go back to school because we didn’t even have what to eat. But now you have provided it and I’m really grateful,” said Pam in Jos on 7 December.Emancipation Center for Crisis Victims in Nigeria (ECCVN), a local nongovernmental organization advocating for victims of violence and natural disasters has since December 14 shared more than $2000USD in educational grants to more than 40 children in northern Nigeria according to its Chief Executive Officer, Solomon Dalyop. The kids including those living with disability were selected from the States of Plateau, Benue, Kaduna and Zamfara, said Dalyop during the disbursements for the Plateau beneficiaries in Jos on 7 December. Each enrollee according to him received at least $60. The grant was an expansion of the organization’s decade-old humanitarian program, said Dalyop, a human rights lawyer.“It was borne out of concern for the crisis affected children who have no means of providing for themselves,” he said in an interview.“Our previous interventions did not include people living with disability because it never crossed our minds but this time we have included pupils and students with hearing impairment,” he added. An official of the Plateau School for the Deaf in Bassa near Jos, Mr. Daspan Gambo told our correspondent the organization was the first to provide grants to children in the school who have been affected by violence.“We have 15 of such children who have been struggling to pay their school fees because their parents have been displaced from their farm settlements, leaving them with no source of income,” said Gambo.“What ECCVN has done is novel and I believe it will go a long way in relieving the sufferings of these children,” he said

More than 200 women made widows by jihadist militants in Nigeria were this Christmas forced into tears by a non-governmental organization giving surprise aid to them.

Despite the fact that there are more than 258 million widows around the world according to the United Nations, widows have historically been left unseen, unsupported, and unmeasured in societies, the UN says. https://www.un.org/en/observances/widows-day

An excited widow waves to camera in appreciation of ECCVN’s donations on 24 Dec in Riyom

Nigeria has over eight million disadvantaged widows with over 21 million children, reports PM News. Armed attacks are among leading causes of widowhood, the UN says.

Worried that many of these victims of violence might only watch others feast and rejoice this Christmas, Emancipation Center for Crisis Victims in Nigeria (ECCVN) decided to donate food rations without prior notice. ECCVN is a Nigerian nongovernmental organization that tracks terrorist attacks and advocates for victims in the country.

The victims are however appealing to the Council’s Chairman of Riyom LGA to, as a matter of conscience and urgency, give effect to a signed resolution made in one of the security meetings chaired by him that each party shall be mandated to compensate the other in any circumstance of this nature, but nothing seems to have been done about it.

This developments affirm an intelligence locally gathered and circulated that Fulani herdsmen vowed that there won’t be harvest in Berom Communities which is glaringly coming to bare.

This, by implication, is obviously clear that while armed invasions are daily meted out on native villages and communications on one hand, food insecurity is the probable consequences anticipated on the other hand with no drastic measures taken or any form of intervals made by Government and other bodies to cushion the effects of the ongoing hostilities being brandished by the marauders. This is another warfare villages and communities are subjected thereto while authorities concerned keep mute.

In view of the above development, ECCVN hereby calls on Government at all levels and spirited individuals to, as a matter of conscience, step up intervention programs, particularly relief materials and psychosocial supports to the said victims whose only means of livelihood have been crippled overnight.

Two people were Sunday ambushed by suspected herdsmen in Wereng village of Riyom Local Government Area in Central Nigeria’s Plateau State.

A local non-governmental organization, Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria (ECCVN) says the natives of Byei village in Riyom LGA were ambushed at about 7:00pm near a military base along Wereng-Byei village road.

One of them, Mr. Stephen Joshua was hacked to death while the other, Mr. Yohanna Dauda narrowly escaped.

“The villagers were returning from Wereng Camp when the militias emerged from the nearby bush and attacked them,” says Mr. Dalyop Solomon, the Chief Executive Officer of ECCVN.

Dozens of villagers have been killed in isolated attacks in Riyom LGA since December last year.

Many of the victims were sacked from their ancestral lands in series of attacks last three years.

The killings resuming as the villagers are trying to return from internally displaced persons camps are likely aimed at expelling them again.

Over 50 villages belonging to minority Plateau tribes have been fully taken over by herdsmen after similar attacks spanning over a decade, media reports say.

But last week, the State Governor, Simon Lalong said no forceful takeover of land in the State.

The Governor has been lashed by activists and Journalists for the comment.

rphaned by herdsmen attacks in Rim village of Central Nigeria’s Plateau State, Esther Dankye, 15, was on the verge of dropping out of school when unexpected help came, Thursday.

Her father was killed when armed assailants rounded up their village last three years, shooting anyone in sight.

Life was already hard for the rural family, as late Mr. Dankye had no job, but his death made things “a lot worse,” said Esther.

Like many African women, Esther’s mother who has no education, was restricted by local customs from working to earn while being married. Now that he’s gone, the family’s responsibility is on her, while she lacks the capacity.

“We go into artisanal mining (in dangerous ponds) to get money for food,” said Esther. Other times, they sell firewood and work on people’s farms for pay. These sources are however seasonal.

Esther hopes to change the family fortunes when she gets a degree. But They barely have enough for food, let alone to pay for school.

Last week, Officials announced Match 15 as deadline for registration of candidates for 2021 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.

Esther had yet to pay tuition for several sessions. All hopes were gone. She had concluded she was going to miss the deadline, thus dropping out to wait for another year, if ever.

Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria (ECCVN), a local non-governmental organization advocating for welfare and rights of communities oppressed by violence, upon hearing her story, Thursday moved to fund Esther’s registration.

ECCVN Official presents cash donation for national exam registration for Esther

It was perhaps the least of her expectations. “I am just speechless. I can’t thank you enough,” she said with eyes full of tears.

The Principal of Government Secondary School Rim, Esther’s school in Riyom, Plateau State, Mrs. Tabitha Dongs was also moved to tears. “I am deeply touched by this. Thank you so much Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria,” she said in a trembling voice.

Mrs. Dongs had identified over 70 orphans of violence in the school since she was posted last year. She has used her resources to assist some, but she is incapacitated. “I wish more people could help,” she said.

The member representing Riyom constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Dantong has placed 17 in the school on scholarship, along with dozens others across the LGA. But the burden is still “enormous”, said Mrs. Dongs.

An Official of ECCVN, Mr. Solomon Dalyop has said the foundation will advocate more help for orphans in the area. It has however paid millions of naira in aid to crisis victims in the last couple of months.

It is likely the only humanitarian organization involved in post-conflict interventions in Central Nigeria. Additional support to it or its target communities might lighten its burden.
