Fresh violence has again shaken communities in Plateau State, as a man and his pregnant wife were reportedly killed in a new attack in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, deepening fears over the worsening security situation across the state.

According to reports, the couple, identified as Iliya Gyang and his wife Grace, were attacked by gunmen in Angwan Ishaku community. Witnesses said the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing the area. The pregnant woman reportedly died at the scene, while her husband later died from injuries sustained during the attack. Two other residents were also said to have been injured.

The latest killings came barely a day after Governor Caleb Mutfwang renewed calls for stronger security operations against armed attackers terrorising rural communities. Residents say the incident has intensified anxiety among families already living in fear due to repeated attacks in several parts of the state.

In recent weeks, multiple communities in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, and other local government areas have witnessed deadly assaults that left dozens dead, including women, children, and elderly residents. Earlier reports indicated that at least 11 people, including pregnant women, were killed during a midnight raid on Ngbra-Zongo community in Bassa Local Government Area. Survivors recounted scenes of chaos as gunmen invaded homes and opened fire on sleeping residents.

Humanitarian concerns are also growing as attacks continue to displace families and destroy livelihoods. Community leaders and civil society groups have warned that many villagers now sleep in fear or flee into nearby bushes whenever gunshots are heard. Reports of orphaned children, destroyed homes, and abandoned farmlands have further highlighted the human cost of the violence.

Security analysts say the persistent attacks reflect broader instability affecting parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt and Sahel region, where weak security presence, communal tensions, and armed groups continue to fuel violence. Residents in Plateau State have repeatedly called for improved intelligence gathering, rapid response from security agencies, and stronger protection for vulnerable rural communities.

Despite assurances from government authorities, many citizens say confidence in the security response remains low as attacks continue to occur across affected communities. Community leaders are urging both federal and state authorities to take decisive action to prevent further loss of lives and restore peace to the region.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association under the leadership of Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri wishes to provide an update on the worsening security situation in Barkin Ladi town following the coordinated attacks carried out by heavily armed fulani terrorists on several communities within the area on Saturday.
As at 1:00am today, no fewer than seven corpses, including that of a Police officer, have been recovered and deposited at the mortuary, while six other persons who sustained varying degrees of injuries are currently receiving medical attention.
The attacks, which occurred simultaneously in areas including Sabon Layi, Rakung, Gangare, and the General Hospital area (Zat and Bet), have once again exposed the helplessness of residents despite the heavy presence of security checkpoints and personnel across Barkin Ladi town.
The Association maintains its earlier Vote of No Confidence passed on the Sector 4 Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Col. Victor Asuquo, and the Operations Officer, Captain Bello, over what has become a consistent pattern of security failure, negligence, and inability to protect lives and property within their jurisdiction.
It is deeply disturbing that communities continue to come under coordinated attacks in broad daylight and at night without any swift or effective response from security operatives. Residents now live in constant fear, uncertainty, and trauma while armed attackers move freely across communities unleashing terror on innocent civilians.
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association also raises serious concern over the response of the Plateau State Government to the recurring humanitarian crisis caused by these attacks.
Since insecurity has become a perennial challenge in Plateau State, the Association questions why the government has not considered establishing a full Ministry of Homeland Security and Humanitarian Services to coordinate proactive security policies, emergency response, and support for affected communities.
Equally troubling is the apparent absence of meaningful intervention from the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency in communities attacked by terrorists where lives have been lost and farmlands destroyed.
The Association notes with sadness that in many of these attacks, traumatised community members are left alone to evacuate corpses without any emergency support from government agencies.
A situation where dead bodies are wrapped in local wrappers and carried with bare hands for burial by grieving residents not only poses serious public health risks but also reflects gross irresponsibility and failure in emergency humanitarian response by the government.
The people of Plateau state deserve protection, dignity, and immediate humanitarian intervention. Government must rise beyond condolences and demonstrate genuine commitment towards securing lives and supporting communities devastated by these persistent attacks.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association under the leadership of Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri expresses deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and hereby passes a Vote of No Confidence on the Sector 4 Commander of the Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Col. Victor Asuquo, and the Operations Officer, Captain Bello.
This decision follows what the Association describes as gross incompetence, negligence, and failure in addressing the worsening wave of attacks and killings across Barkin Ladi and surrounding communities under their jurisdiction.
The Association notes with pain and outrage that between April and 9th May, 2026, no fewer than 34 innocent natives have been brutally killed in separate attacks across communities within Sector 4, while over 70 hectares of farmlands have been destroyed by armed Fulani militias, further worsening the humanitarian and economic hardship faced by residents.

BYM observes with serious concern that despite the visible presence of security personnel and checkpoints strategically located across Barkin Ladi, attacks have continued unabated, leaving communities vulnerable, helpless, and abandoned to the mercy of armed invaders who move freely from one village to another unleashing terror on defenseless citizens.

Particularly heartbreaking is the gruesome killing of Mr. Gyang Kim Choji, a patriotic citizen who provided part of his home as accommodation for personnel of the STF stationed in his community. Shockingly, he was slaughtered by suspected Fulani militias just a few metres away from the checkpoint situated directly in front of his house.
Rather than demonstrating empathy and professionalism, residents were further devastated after a video circulated on social media showing the Guard Commander at the checkpoint dismissing allegations against Fulani attackers without providing any explanation as to who then carried out the killing.

The Association further recalls that members of the community had allegedly raised repeated complaints against the conduct and attitude of the said Guard Commander to the Sector Commander on several occasions. These complaints reportedly bordered on threats, intimidation, and unprofessional conduct. Sadly, no action was taken until angry women of the community, who were protesting and demanding the removal of the officer, dismantled the checkpoint on the day Mr. Gyang Kim Choji was buried.

What appears even more shocking is an alleged statement credited to the Sector Commander, Col. Victor Asuquo, to the effect that the people “will see what will happen in the next two months since they are rejecting the military.” This disturbing statement raises serious concern and leaves room for dangerous interpretations, especially as the security situation has continued to deteriorate since then with little or no visible effort by security personnel to stop the killings.

Even more alarming is the latest attack currently unfolding in Sabon Layi, in the heart of Barkin Ladi town, where heavily armed terrorists invaded the community in broad daylight, shooting sporadically at residents with little or no meaningful response from security operatives.
As at 6:15pm today, one woman had reportedly been shot dead, while another victim — a man who sustained severe gunshot injuries — was being rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for emergency medical attention.

Disturbingly, reports further indicate that as at 7:59pm, simultaneous attacks were being carried out within the central town of Barkin Ladi in areas including Sabon Layi, Rakung, Gangare, and the General Hospital area (Zat and Bet). Residents now live in fear of further attacks as the situation continues to deteriorate before the eyes of security agencies.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association states categorically that the continued killings, destruction of property, and occupation of farmlands under the watch of Sector 4 of Operation Enduring Peace have exposed the apparent failure of the current leadership of the sector to protect lives and property.

The Association therefore demands the immediate redeployment of Col. Victor Asuquo and Captain Bello from Sector 4, insisting that the people of Barkin Ladi have completely lost confidence in their ability to secure the area or inspire hope among traumatized communities.

BYM equally calls on the Chief of Defence Staff, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, and relevant federal authorities to urgently intervene and overhaul the security architecture in Barkin Ladi before the entire area descends into total anarchy.
The Association warns that the silence, indifference, and weak response to these attacks are emboldening the perpetrators and deepening the perception that innocent communities have been deliberately abandoned despite the heavy presence of security operatives in the area.

The lives of the people of Barkin Ladi matter, and no community should continue to bury its people daily while security checkpoints merely count casualties after every attack.

Communities across parts of Plateau State have again been thrown into mourning following renewed attacks and killings recorded between May 4 and May 7, 2026.

The incidents, which affected communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and nearby villages, have increased tension among residents, with many families reportedly displaced while others continue to seek refuge in safer locations.

Reports from local sources indicated that armed attackers invaded Fan, Hurum and Nding Sesut communities during late-night raids, killing several residents and injuring others. Witnesses described the attacks as coordinated assaults carried out when most villagers had retired for the night.

In Fan and Hurum communities, multiple casualties were recorded after gunmen reportedly opened fire on residents returning home. Community leaders said the attacks left families devastated and properties abandoned as survivors fled for safety.

Fresh violence was again reported in Nding Sesut community on May 5 and May 6, where attackers allegedly targeted residents during and after burial activities for earlier victims. Eyewitness accounts stated that mourners gathering for a mass burial came under gunfire from surrounding areas, creating panic and confusion.

Security agencies later confirmed casualties from the attacks, including women and children, while several injured victims were rushed to medical facilities for treatment.

Among the victims publicly mentioned in reports was Gyang Choji Kim, who was reportedly killed during one of the attacks in Barkin Ladi area. Other victims had not been fully identified publicly as authorities and community leaders were still compiling official casualty records at the time of filing this report.

Residents and community stakeholders have continued to call on government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward protecting vulnerable communities and restoring lasting peace across Plateau State.

The renewed attacks have once again highlighted the persistent security challenges facing rural communities in the state, with humanitarian concerns growing over displacement, trauma and loss of livelihoods.Community leaders, religious organisations and civil society groups have urged residents to remain vigilant while appealing for unity, peace and justice for affected families.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), under the leadership of Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, expresses deep outrage and condemnation over the calculated and complete destruction of over 100 irrigation farmlands within two days (21st and 22nd April, 2026) in Jol Community, Riyom Local Government Area, which occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reports from the community confirm that over 50 hectares of cultivated irrigation farmland—hosting a variety of thriving crops—were intentionally invaded and grazed upon by Fulani herders who drove their cattle into these farms. This act has not only destroyed the primary source of livelihood for many families but also threatens food security and economic stability in that general area.
While we acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of the Special Task Force (STF) in arresting 21 cows that returned to the area on Wednesday, we must state that arrest alone does not address the magnitude of destruction inflicted on the farming community. The seized cattle represent only a fraction of those involved and cannot compensate for even half of the losses suffered by the affected farmers.
In light of this, the BYM makes the following demands:

Immediate issuance of a directive or order halting grazing in Jol and its surrounding communities, including Kwi, Wereng, Rim, among others.

Full compensation for all affected farmers whose crops and livelihoods have been destroyed.

Enhanced security presence and enforcement measures to prevent a recurrence of such acts.

We must clearly state that continued inaction or failure to decisively address this issue may further escalate tensions. The community’s patience is being severely tested, and while we advocate for lawful and peaceful resolution, we cannot guarantee sustained calm if these injustices persist unchecked.
The BYM stands firmly with the people of Jol and calls on all relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively in the interest of justice, peace, and coexistence.

The Berom Youths Moulder-Association is, again, saddened and perturbed by the advancement in the evil and sadistic strategies of Fulani militancy, which aim not only at ethnic cleansing but also at economic warfare through the use of hazardous herbicides on crops. This was carried out on over thirteen maize and hot pepper farms belonging to inhabitants of Gassa Community in Ropp District, Barkin Ladi LGA, in the midnight of 15th April, 2026.

According to one of the victims, the chemicals were applied on dry-season farmlands covering at least four hectares overnight, with the intent not only to destroy the crops—particularly the hot pepper, which was already under harvest—but also to scare farmers away from returning to their farms. The BYM firmly views this as a “FULL-SCALE” economic war being waged alongside the ongoing banditry and terrorism persistently meted out on our people. It is worthy of mention that this is not the first time such an act has been perpetrated. Last year, the same elements carried out a similar attack on crops that were about to be harvested in villages within Fan District of Barkin Ladi LGA.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, has left the affected crops, which were previously green and healthy, now showing clear signs of drying up as the effects of the chemicals continue to manifest.

This sad development has raised serious concern among farmers and residents of the area, given the fact that these criminally minded elements are increasingly rendering the “State of Emergency” declared on food security ineffective and counterproductive.

Following this new trend adopted by these enemies of humanity, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), under the leadership of its President, Barrister Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, calls on the government, particularly security agencies, to take drastic and decisive actions to curb and end this dangerous and troubling development, in order to prevent a recurrence of such dastardly acts.

The Association warns that the deliberate destruction of farmlands poses a serious threat to food security and the livelihoods of local farmers, particularly at a time when the rainy season is approaching and irrigation farming harvests are ongoing.

The BYM further calls on security agencies and government authorities to urgently investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, as such acts could further heighten tensions in Gassa, Barkin Ladi, and surrounding communities.

The group also appeals for increased security surveillance around farming communities by the special security outfit, Agro Rangers, to prevent further attacks on agricultural produce and ensure that farmers are protected and able to harvest their crops safely.

At least eight people, mostly members of the same family, were killed when gunmen invaded Mbwelle village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State late Thursday night. The attack occurred around 11 p.m. on April 9, 2026, with the assailants opening fire indiscriminately on residents for nearly an hour before fleeing the scene.

According to community leaders and eyewitness accounts, the gunmen stormed the rural settlement, which lies close to Bokkos town, and targeted homes in a sporadic shooting that left residents in panic. Three others were injured in the assault, while some community members remain unaccounted for.

The victims, all confirmed to be from one extended family, have been identified as:

1. Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus
2. Mr. Luck Titus Dakus
3. Mr. Habila Istifanu Dakus
4. Mr. Hassan Istifanus Dakus
5. Mrs. Hassan Moses Dakus
6. Biggie Lucky Dakus
7. Sunday Gideon Dakus
8. Mr. Innocent Barnabas Makwin
The bodies were laid to rest in a mass funeral on Friday, April 10, conducted by Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo at the graveside in Mbwelle village. The ceremony was marked by deep grief, with residents from various Christian denominations gathering to mourn.

Kefas Mallai, Chairman of the Bokkos Community Peace Observers, confirmed the incident and expressed outrage over the lack of immediate security response despite the village’s proximity to Bokkos town. “The attack lasted for several hours with no visible security presence to repel the attackers,” he said, adding that the community is now planning protests over the failure to protect residents. Youth Leader Christopher Luka described the assault as “a sad and devastating assault on the people of Bokkos and Plateau State as a whole.”

One survivor, the eldest son of Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, recounted the horror in a viral video: “When I heard the sound, I tapped my wife and told her that some people are shooting… I managed to slip from the backdoor… the gunmen surrounded them and shot them in cold blood. This my father, this is my wife, these are my brothers and these are my children. Altogether eight of them are from the same family.”

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the latest reports. Joint security forces later responded to distress calls but found the attackers had already escaped into the surrounding terrain.

The incident comes amid persistent insecurity in Plateau State’s Bokkos axis, a region that has witnessed repeated attacks in recent years. Mbwelle village is the latest in a pattern of violence that has claimed lives across Bokkos and neighbouring areas, heightening fears and tension among residents. Community leaders have called for stronger security presence and urgent government intervention to prevent further bloodshed.

Authorities have not yet released details on possible motives or arrests related to the attack.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), under the leadership of its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, has expressed deep concern over the continuous and coordinated attacks being carried out by Armed Fulani Terrorists against innocent Berom citizens both in broad daylight and at night in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Jos South Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
Latest information available to the Association indicates that on the evening of Wednesday, 8th April 2026, armed Fulani militias ambushed innocent travelers who were returning from mining activities around the Great Commission area along the Bokkos Road on their way to Nding in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area at about 4:15 p.m.
During the ambush, the attackers opened fire on the unsuspecting victims, killing Mr. Ayuba Pam of Nding Sesut. Two other persons sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment. The injured victims have been identified as Mr. Alfred Dung and Mr. Nathaniel Bitrus.
In a related attack on the same day, Armed Fulani Terrorists also laid an ambush along the Gwolhoss–Byei road in Riyom Local Government Area, where Mr. Christopher Joshua from Byei community in Riyom LGA, a father of three, was brutally murdered while returning home after his lawful activities for the day. The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 p.m.
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association views these attacks as part of a calculated and sustained campaign of terror against innocent and defenseless communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas with the aim of grabbing land. It is deeply troubling that such ambushes continue to occur on community roads used daily by farmers, miners, and travelers without any lasting solution, despite the fact that security authorities are aware of the locations where these terrorists operate and hide.
BYM therefore calls on security agencies to immediately intensify surveillance and patrols along known flashpoints and rural access roads, particularly the Great Commission–Bokkos road, Great Commission -Gashish axis and the Rahoss-Rim road, Kwi-Farin Lamba road, Gwolhoss-Jol-Sho road and Rim-Bachi road, which have increasingly become corridors of deadly ambushes.
While commending security personnel who continue to put their lives on the line to protect vulnerable communities, the Association urges them to go beyond reactive responses by taking proactive and decisive steps to dismantle the terrorist cells operating within and around Berom communities.
The Association also calls on government at all levels to take urgent and decisive action to end these senseless killings and ensure that perpetrators of these heinous crimes are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
BYM stands in solidarity with the families of the victims and the affected communities during this difficult time and assures them that the Berom youth will continue to advocate for justice, peace, and the protection of lives and ancestral lands.
The continuous bloodshed of innocent citizens going about their legitimate livelihoods must not be allowed to continue unchecked.

Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), under the leadership of its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, has received credible intelligence from an anonymous but reliable source indicating that the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) is allegedly making desperate efforts to procure a questionable psychiatric certificate claiming that the suspect arrested in connection with the April 5, 2026 attack on Pwomol Village in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area is mentally unstable.

According to the intelligence available to the Association, the alleged plan is to present the forged medical report to the Special Task Force (STF) under Operation Enduring Peace as grounds to pressure authorities to release the suspect or face the threat of legal action.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association wishes to state clearly that the suspect, Yusuf Danladi, is known to be sound, mentally stable, and an active individual from Fass community. Therefore, any sudden claim suggesting that he suffers from a mental health condition should be treated with the utmost suspicion.

Information available to BYM indicates that certain propaganda channels are currently working to manufacture and circulate a psychiatric certificate in a calculated attempt to secure the release of the suspect and shield him from facing justice for his alleged role in the attack that claimed three innocent lives in Pwomol.

BYM views this development as a desperate attempt to obstruct justice and manipulate the investigation process. The Association maintains that any such questionable medical certificate must not only be rejected outright but that those responsible for producing or facilitating such a document should be investigated and treated as accomplices in the attack against the people of Pwomol.

It is both illogical and unacceptable that a suspect who reportedly provided clear and detailed information about the attack in a community where he does not reside is suddenly being described as mentally unstable. The level of information allegedly supplied by the suspect about the incident raises serious doubts about the credibility of any such claim.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association therefore categorically rejects any attempt to manipulate the investigation or mislead security agencies and the Nigerian public in order to shield the suspect from facing justice.BYM wishes to make it unequivocally clear that the Berom people will not accept any cooked-up report or fabricated narrative intended to derail the course of justice. Any attempt to compromise the investigation will only deepen suspicions that certain interests are determined to frustrate accountability in the ongoing attacks against communities on the Plateau.Furthermore, any interference in the investigation process would send a disturbing signal to the international community that powerful interests may be working to undermine justice and the security of innocent citizens. In line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, BYM strongly demands that the suspect be immediately handed over to the appropriate security agency responsible for the investigation and prosecution of criminal matters to ensure transparency and accountability.

We call on security agencies and government at all levels to remain vigilant and resist any pressure capable of derailing the investigation. The families of the victims and the entire Berom nation deserve justice, and nothing short of justice will be acceptable.

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association will continue to monitor developments closely and remains committed to the pursuit of justice, accountability, and the protection of our communities from further attacks.
