Hukke Village of Bassa LGA attacked by suspected Fulani Herdsmen

It’s within public knowledge that tears of agony have continued running down the faces of good and peace loving people of Plateau State over a trending tragedy of terror attack that engulfed 3 locals of Irigwe Chiefdom in Bassa Local Government of Plateau State.  The deceased, namely, Elder Musa Yivu, Mrs. Ladi Wuh and Mrs. Laraba Audu who were said to have been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen on the 23th September, 2019 at Hukke Village, Miango, Bassa LGA of the State.

The incident, according to Mr. John Gospel Gana, National Secretary of Irigwe Youth Development Association when responding to an interview by Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, Esq. of Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria, described the attack as “orchestral act of inhumanity of armed Fulani to unsuspecting locals of Hukke community of Miango Chiefdom..” which he condemned it in its entirety, and called on Government to “as a matter of urgency, step up deliberate action to end the renewal of both guerilla attacks by bloodthirsty marauders whose consistency in raiding communities have obviously become a gradual extinction of Irigwe native inhabitants and other Plateau locals subjected under siege by the killer Fulani herdsmen whose modus operandi constitutes continued threat to life, peace and security both locally and internationally”.

In a related reaction to the gory incident, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Irigwe Chiefdom, in a press statement, “considers this to be purely an impudent act and in fact a degrading treatment being done on Christians to stop us from preaching the message of peace. This is quite Disheartening and alarming because these killings and attacks is a great point of concern, for some incorrigible individuals or group of persons are allowed to temper and to quench the peace that the peace loving people of Plateau State are enjoying and are known for.”

The Christian body “vehemently condemns this horrible, horrific and unpleasant incidents. The Holy Bible condemns it, the law of the country condemns it, in fact nobody has the right to kill another person because we have been created in God’s image and likeness. We sincerely sympathize and commiserate with the deceased families at this difficult moments that the good Lord will comfort and sustain you. (Amen).”

The CAN cried out appealingly that “we therefore, plead and urge the Government of the day to come to our rescue to put a full-stop on these killings knowing fully that the sole duty of the state is to protect lives and properties, when this is not done it shows that the state has failed. As CAN Irigwe Chiefdom, we promise to preach, promote, maintain peace and to be law abiding citizens.

Further more, we call on Christian organizations, individual Christian, NGOs and the Government to support the deceased families prayerfully, financially and otherwise to alleviate their sufferings” as presented by Pst. Joshua Bari, CAN Secretary, Irigwe Chiefdom.

Following the aforementioned utter disregard to sanctity of human lives, and broad daylight jihad being waged and waded by Fulani militias, Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria hereby pray as follows-

1. That a panel of inquiry be constituted to

a) inquire into both remote and immediate cause(s) of all recorded atrocious killings  in Miango from 2018-date.

b) find out and unravel the perpetrators and forces behind the heinous actions which have continued in perpetuity.

c) published its findings, and necessary actions be taken to addressing the tragic development.

d) any other action deemed necessary in the circumstance.

2. Rehabilitation programs be set in motion for surviving members of the deceased families.

3. Compensation and other humanitarian packages be initiated for each family affected by the gory incident.

4. Self-security Awareness campaigns be initiated and reached out by the Church to its members so that people can be informed and guided on their respective movements.

5. Declaration of solemn assembly on prayer and fasting be unitedly made by the Church in Nigeria, especially Plateau State for God to arise and humble enemies of his people.

6. Security agents should live up to their statutory duties in protection of lives and property of all persons irrespective of ethno-religious affiliations.
