THE PRESS RELEASE OF THE BEROM YOUTHS MOULDER-ASSOCIATION (BYM) OVER ANOTHER MASS DESTRUCTION (MOW DOWN) OF FARMED CROPS IN RIM COMMUNITY, RIYOM LGA, 26TH AUGUST, 2025

The Berom Youths Moulder-Association under the leadership of Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri is impelled to, in strong terms, condemn another willful destruction of farmlands mowed down overnight of 25th August. 2025 by suspected Fulani militants, who had previously planned same based on early warning received and circulated accordingly.

According to eyewitness’ account, the militants are said to had moved down over 90 Maize farmlands situated at Nod area of the Community, leaving the affected persons in a high state of despondency, inescapable hunger and starvation in amidst of perpetual terrorism, banditry and other forms of aggression the inhabitants of Riyom LGA and other affected Local Government Areas in Plateau State have been subjected to.

The BYM is saddened by the ongoing terror including willful destruction of farmlands best described as “most dangerous form of terrorism ” that aims at coercing the populace into abject impoverishment and beggarly status, which defies Government declaration of “State of Emergency on Food Security” in the country.

The BYM is hereby calling on the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Federal Emergency Management Agency, State Emergency Management Agency, Riyom Local Government Council and Civil Society Organizations and NGOs to, as a matter of urgency, come to the aid of these victims so as to meet up the humanitarian needs arising from the dastardly act perpetrated by the militants. In the same, we are calling on security agents to rise up to the occasion since Fulani apparently vow to make life unbearable to our people.

On a whole, we appeal passionately to the State and Local Government to create Buffer-zones in order to restrict free grazing, which has outrightly become a veritable strategic to unleash mayhem on unsuspecting residents in our Hamlets, villages and communities. Meanwhile, we urge all the local security outfits to restrategize their modus operandi in synergy with Federal Security Agencies to stem the excesses of the enemies of humanity within the general area.
