Report has it that at about 10:42pm of last night, 7th October, 2020, armed Fulani suspected from Rankum (Mahanga) attacked Vwak village of Jol community, injuring Miss Blessing Davou, an IDP from Darin hamlet of the community.
A vigilante who pleaded anonymity called Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, Esq. and intimated him about the development, said, “..while we were on watch since evening time, we noticed suspicious movements of Fulani, grouping themselves. We became very apprehensive in view of threatening rape incident and assault on Mrs. Suzanna Joseph and recent happenings in other neighboring villages, we intensified vigilance.” He added that, “prior to the attack, we spotted torchlights moving from Guava and Rankum (Mahanga) axis. After a short while, we heard heavy gunfire, which resulted to injury of a young lady” he said. The source also aired out an increasing fear of the attack likely to aggravated due to number of torchlights seen from the two Fulani settlements towards Vwak, the hamlet under the invasion.
Appropriate authorities were immediately informed for necessary actions.
Officer in charge of Operation Rainbow stationed in Jol confirmed the incident that, it’s true a young lady was injured by gunshot. We rushed her to Vom Christian Hospital, where the bullet was removed” he said.
The unsuspecting natives are apprehensive of the continued attacks and alarming crops mowed down as well as mischievous grazing witnessed on daily both within and outside the community. This therefore impelled for drastic measures to be put in place so as to nip the menaces and act of terrorism in the bud.
