A 43-year-old Berom man, identified as Mangai Musa, has been reported killed in an attack on Wereng-Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a situation report issued by the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), the victim was allegedly shot dead on the night of Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The association alleged that the attack was carried out by armed assailants it described as “Fulani terrorists” operating from a Fulani settlement in Bangai.
The report, signed by Rwang Tengwong, BYM National Publicity Secretary, stated that the full circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated. It added that residents described the killing as another disturbing episode in the recurring violence affecting communities in Riyom Local Government Area.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the Nigeria Police Force, military authorities, or representatives of the Fulani community regarding the incident. Independent verification of the claims was not immediately available.
The latest killing is expected to heighten concerns over the persistent security challenges in parts of Plateau State, where repeated attacks and reprisals have claimed numerous lives and displaced residents in recent years. Community leaders have continued to call on security agencies to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities and ensure that those responsible for acts of violence are brought to justice.
