BYM CONDEMNS KILLING OF FORMER GASHISH DISTRICT CHAIRMAN, CALLS FOR URGENT INVESTIGATION INTO TERRORIST PROPAGANDA

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), under the leadership of Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, Esq., strongly condemns the killing of Rwas Paul Danladi, former Chairman of the BYM Gashish District, by Armed Fulani Assailants along the Gashish–Barkin Ladi road this evening.Rwas Paul Danladi was attacked at about 5:30 p.m. around Rantis Village while returning to Barkin Ladi on his motorcycle. The Association is deeply saddened by the killing of a respected community leader and extends its condolences to his family, friends and the entire Gashish community.

Of particular concern to BYM is the alleged use of social media to distort information and create a false narrative immediately after the incident. The Association calls on the security agencies to urgently investigate the social-media activities of one ILIYASU IBRAHIM SHAGARI, who, shortly after the attack posted on Facebook that “two Fulanis were killed in Kafi Abu (Rakwok), the next village after Rantis.” The timing and content of the post require serious investigation, particularly as it was shared by several persons, including MUHAMMAD GARKUWAN FULBE, who allegedly circulated it across multiple groups.

BYM demands to Department of State Security, DSS to thoroughly, impartially and professionally investigate the activities of Shagari to establish the source of the information, how it was obtained so quickly, whether it was deliberately intended to mislead the public, and whether such activities form part of a broader pattern of propaganda designed to obscure attacks and inflame tensions.

The incident further raises concerns about the growing use of social media as a tool for misinformation and propaganda during violent attacks. Security agencies must not only investigate perpetrators of physical violence but also pay attention to coordinated attempts to manipulate public information, especially when such narratives emerge almost simultaneously with an attack.

BYM is also deeply concerned about other attacks across the Berom nation today. One person reportedly sustained serious injuries following an attack around Gwom-Ajang in Foron this afternoon and was taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment. In separate incidents along Sho Road, Mafeng Samuel Lamba was reportedly injured and taken to hospital, while Bitrus Pam Dadon was reportedly attacked and had his motorcycle stolen.

These incidents come after the attack on Tanjol Village in Riyom Local Government Area on Tuesday night by the Armed Fulani Assailants. Although the intervention of security personnel prevented casualties in that incident, the recurrence of attacks remains deeply troubling and demands not only sustained security presence but proactive intelligence gathering and taking the battle to the terrorists enclaves.

BYM therefore calls on the Plateau State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services and other relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the killing of Rwas Paul Danladi and the social media activities of Iliyasu Ibrahim Shagari, apprehend those responsible, protect vulnerable communities and thoroughly examine the social-media propaganda surrounding the incident.

We further urge security agencies to strengthen surveillance along vulnerable roads and communities in Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Riyom and other affected areas in Plateau state, while ensuring that perpetrators of violence are brought to justice irrespective of their identity or affiliation.
