PREGNANT WOMAN KILLED AND 2 OTHERS INJURED ON THE PLATEAU

The National body of Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) observes that, after a considerable season of relative peace achieved by the relentless efforts of security agents, particularly Operation Safe Haven-OPSH on the Plateau, the people of Jol Community, Riyom LGA have, this afternoon of 10th October, 2024, been plunged into a state of mourning at about 3:00pm or thereabout, when a group of Fulani attacked a pregnant woman named, Favour Raymond, aged 25 and her husband, Mr. Raymond Davou along Sho-Jol road when the couples were on motorcycle to Jol.

According to local source that pleads anonymity, “the couples went to Barkin Ladi LGA for antenatal. Just a kilometer to Jol Community as they were returning around Sho Forest, along Jol-Sho road, they were attacked by Fulani suspected to have hailed either from Guava/Mahanga axis or Fass settlement, all under Jol. As a result, Mrs Favour Raymond lost her life while her husband sustained varying degrees of injuries, and currently on admission in the hospital……” as she couldn’t make it to the hospital.

Reacting to the unprovoked attack, one Fulani was affected. While the situation was brought under control by security agents, Mr Dachollom Biri of Daku, who was returning home to Vwak, where IDPs of Daku take refuge, was similarly attacked by another group of Fulani, and has also been rushed to the hospital.

The breach of Peace and order in the general area has caused a rising tension, which, if not nipped in the bud, could degenerate to a full scale intractable violence affecting not only Jol, but also its neighboring villages as well as Local Government Areas bordering Riyom and beyond. This is why the BYM is calling on the people of Jol, not only to bear the irreparable loss meted out on them, but also exercise usual restraint and patience, more so that security agents are on ground, and have called for restraint and calmness to enable them carry discreet investigation.

Meanwhile, personnel of Operation Rainbow have apprehended some cows for preliminary investigation and other measures as Operation Safe Haven-OPSH is on top of the situation.

In view of the sad incidents, the BYM hereby recommends as follows:-

  1. That farming and other activities be put on halt until adequate security arrangements are made to that effect ;
  2. Be on serious watch and report any suspicious movement to security agents.
  3. Ensure compliance with order banning late evening hours Movement
  4. Any other necessary expedient in the circumstances
