Three Youths Killed, One Injured in Midnight Terrorist Attack on Pwomol Village in Heipang District, Plateau State

Heipang, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State – Armed terrorists struck Pwomol Village in the Heipang District late on Sunday night (April 5, 2026), killing three vigilante youths and injuring one other in a targeted midnight invasion.

According to multiple reports, the attackers invaded the community around midnight, opening fire on local vigilante youths who were on watch duty to protect the village. The assault caused panic as residents fled into nearby bushes. Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), confirmed the incident. He stated that the terrorists specifically targeted the vigilantes keeping guard over Pwomol Village. Security operatives responded swiftly and arrested one suspected attacker around 1:00 a.m. near the Redemption Camp area between Heipang and Kassa. The suspect was reportedly found with blood stains on his body and is now in custody with security forces at Sector 4 in Barkin Ladi LGA.

Some accounts describe the death toll as two killed with several others injured, while others consistently report three youths dead and one injured. The variation may stem from initial reports versus updated figures as more details emerged on Monday, April 6. Houses and properties were also affected in related violence in the area.

This latest attack in Heipang comes amid a wave of insecurity in Plateau State. Just days earlier (around April 1-2, 2026), gunmen had stormed the Ban community in Heipang , located opposite the Plateau State Polytechnic, around 11 p.m., shooting sporadically. That incident left at least two people dead (including a polytechnic student who later succumbed to injuries) and others wounded, triggering panic among students living off-campus.

Residents and youth groups have expressed outrage over the recurring violence in the region, which has seen multiple deadly attacks in recent weeks, including larger incidents in Jos North and other parts of Plateau State.

Security forces are said to be on high alert, with ongoing engagements reported in parts of Heipang and Barkin Ladi as operations continue to track down the perpetrators.

Community leaders have called for enhanced security deployment and thorough investigations to bring the attackers to justice and prevent further bloodshed. The Plateau State Government and federal authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the Sunday night incident as of the latest updates.

Heipang, home to the Yakubu Gowon Airport and near educational institutions, has increasingly come under threat, raising concerns about the safety of residents, students, and travelers in the area.

This story is developing. More details are expected as security agencies and community leaders provide further updates.
