At about 8:00pm of yesterday, 31st January, 2022, two natives of Wereng Community of Riyom LGA, Plateau State by armed men suspected to be Fulani militias. As a result, Mr. Ayuba Dapwe was shot dead, while Mr. Dachollom Davou sustained gunshot on his head and have been rushed to the hospital where the corpse of the other has been deposited.
According to anonymous source, ” we heard sporadic gunfire very close to our community. Upon getting to the scene, we found Dapwe dead in pool of blood. Mr Dachollom Davou was missing but later on found struggling with several gunshots on his head, back and right hand…” narrated.
Another respondent pointed that, “Fulani were seen in the bushes between Wereng and Kuru in the evening time. Their suspicious movements with torchlights continued up to the time the two people were ambushed on their way coming back from Farin Lamba..” as this is one of many other attacks meted out on native inhabitants of Plateau in January, 2021 which over 26 lives have been gruesomely murdered within one month.
This, therefore, calls for a need to intensify security action in order to nip the gory development in the bud so as to guarantee peace and security of all persons. In addition, ECCVN also calls on Government at all levels and spirited individuals to reach out with financial aid to the survivor whose critical condition requires such assistance to foot the medical cost implication.
