ANOTHER TRAGEDY IN PLATEAU AS FULANI MILITIAS KILLED 8

Following a first report by local source that 8 miners of Kuru were ambushed and reportedly shot dead while others sustained fatal injuries by suspected Fulani militias at about 7:00pm of 9th April, 2021 in a mining site of Cabitex Company, behind Government Science School Kuru, Jos South LGA, Plateau State, ECCVN’s team, in an on-spot assessment confirmed the incident factually truthful.

In confirming the gory incident, Mr. Chapo Daniel, Esq., who is the Secretary General of Kuru Development Association, condemned the terror attack, describing it as, “a heavy loss that drills mourners with heavy hearts; we are saddened with the bad news of the loss of our people who went for their legitimate businesses in this harsh economic period, but were ambushed and 8 killed while others sustained several degree of injuries as a result of the attack by assailants suspected to be herdsmen…” he said. He called on Government, especially security agents to expedite action to get the assailants arrested as tension is high over the killings.

Below is a list of people engulfed in the attack:

  1. Mrs. Talatu Sunday,
  2. Mrs. Jumai Useini,
  3. Mr. Davou Dalyop Pwol (beheaded)
  4. Mr. Gyang Joseph Nyam.
  5. Mr. Gabriel Nuhu.
  6. Mrs Nvou Dung.

Another despondent, Mrs. Rose expresses dissatisfaction over security agents response to local intelligence gathered and disseminated prior to attacks and yet, no action taken. She then calls on Government to speedily declare ban on open grazing since the attackers have always used it to perpetrate mischiefs on farmed crops and also lay ambushes in evening time. “if there would be ban on open grazing, Fulani militias would invariably be restricted. As such, I call on Government to address this so that we can experience peace otherwise Fulani will keep maiming lives and cripple us economically,” she said.

Going by the above expressions, it behoves on Government and its security agents to double up in addressing the trending security challenges being witnessed in Plateau, especially Kuru and its environs in order to avoid recurrences as well as violent reactions that might arise as a result of inaction from its part. It’s also imperative to speed up preliminary investigation aiming at apprehending and arresting violent actors that had played part in the unfortunate development, bearing focus on some security information and happenings unfolded prior to the invasion.
