At about 5:32pm of 22nd January, 2022, a group of armed men suspected to be Fulani militias stormed a mining site at Rot-Vorok (Rafin-Laka) of Dong Community, Jos North LGA of Plateau State. As a result, 4 people were shot dead while a woman, namely Mrs. Ishaya sustained injuries leading to her admission at Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos.

According to a one of the survivors who pleads anonymity, said that “we were carrying out a time mining activity on our family land when I observed suspicious movements of both cattle and the Fulani within, not knowing that in the next 5 minutes there would be a terror on us. While making effort to vacate the site, we spotted two people coming from the direction of Dong Community, thinking they were our people. Upon getting to where we were, they filed out their rifles and open gunfire at us, leading to the killing of 4 while a woman sustained injuries, but my other brother and I jumped into one of the mining pit for our safety…” narrated by the respondent. Those killed lost:
- Mr. Ayanku Bulus of Irigwe extraction in Dong Community of Jos North LGA, while
- Francis James Danboyi (30 year old), a graduate of Public Administration, Plateau State Polytechnic Left behind aged parents, 3.Livinus Pius Danboyi (20) a student of Plateau State Polytechnic and
- Moses Peter Danboyi (24), a carpenter at Hwolshe Community of Jos South LGA.
The environment is calmed as at the time of filing this report even though coalition of youths of Dong Community protested against the continued killings by armed Fulani militias in and around the area.
Emancipation Centre for Crisis Victims in Nigeria condemns the acts of murder of innocent miners for whatever reason known to the killer Fulani militias and thus, calls for order by the authorities that be to arrest the situation by ensuring the trail and arrest of the perpetrators, who have turned the area and some lands grabbed for kidnapping den.
In addition, ECCVN passionately appeals for flush-out operation by both Federal and local security outfits to get rid of terrorist and criminal elements from such areas in order for peace and tranquility to come to bare in Dong and other affected villages/Communities.
