PLATEAU ARMED ATTACKS; BEROM YOUTHS CONDEMNS KILLINGS IN MANGU LGA; 4TH FEBRUARY, 2025

The National body of Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) under the leadership of Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, in solidarity with the Mwagvwul nation, condemns in its entirety, the recent and ongoing banditry in Mangu LGA as there’s no justifiable reason tenable in our legal system that terrorism has become a means of acquisition of lands and also advocating for indigenship thereby maiming life’s in both small and large scale.

From the abundant records, the following terror attacks are said to have recently been unleashed:-

  • On 27th January, 2025, Five (5) womwn of Panyam went to fetch firewood, but were, without any form of provocation, attacked. Four (4) miraculously escaped while one of them abducted. Her release was secured by rapid response of vigilante of the area.
  • the following day, killer Fulani attack Ligihitlubang village of Bungha District and killed a woman. On that same day, they attacked Chisu village and killed 4 Youths.
  • 2 days after, Chisu was attacked and 5 people killed while 3 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

These and other incidences attributed to the well known activities of the terrorist elements not only in Mangu, but other affected Local Government Areas in the State impel us to, as a matter of urgency, call for declaration of killer Fulani as a “TERRORIST GROUP” and therefore, be dislodged from over 152 villages overran and forcefully taken over in Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, Mangu and Riyom Local Government Areas.

Following the rapid response and proactive measures of the security agencies, particularly Operation Safe Haven-OPSH, which averted a replica of Christmas-eve massacres witnessed in 2023, we commend the sustained effort demonstrated by the new GOC of 3rd Armoured Division who doubles as the Commander, Operation Safe Haven-OPSH, Maj. Gen. Eyitayo Ayinlola for his immediate visit to Mangu LGA in order to do an on-the spot assessment of the situation. This largely brought about the general calmness of the situation, and thus, we are optimistic that the Operation Safe Haven-OPSH is poised towards not only sustaining the modus operandi adopted by the last Commander, Maj. Gen. AE Abubakar, but also creating a new path for eradication of criminal gangs so that peace and security of Plateau State and beyond become the order of the day.

The BYM is using this medium to condole the entire Mwagvwul nation over the unfortunate round of violent eruptions in its domain. We pray God Almighty to grant you the fortitude to bear the agony of terror meted out on your subjects.
